We have created this website to showcase the NZEB design projects of IDeAs, we hope you are inspired to start saving the world, one building at a time.
This 2,500 sq ft watershed exhibit addition to the Aquarium of the Pacific incorporates a classroom space, teaching exhibits as well as a meeting space for school and community groups. Visitors can learn what they can do to conserve water and interact with hands-on outdoor exhibits. Watershed models allow visitors to learn about the importance of watersheds and their effects on the environment.
The site exhibits native plant landscaping that utilizes grey water irrigation to demonstrate the water saving features of native gardens. The classroom has a living roof that is planted with native plants and grasses; this roof enhances the thermal performance of the building while slowing down runoff. Thermal mass and passive heating and cooling strategies are used to help with energy conservation. The 2.8 kW photovoltaic system provides the classroom and exhibit with 100% of its energy needs. This carbon neutral classroom serves as an example of sustainable design, renewable energy, water conservation and reuse.
